Created: a new lecture

About a year ago my friend Helen asked if I would create a lecture on my design process to present to our guild. This is not something I had previously considered, but agreed nonetheless.  The process to develop this lecture was a journey.

Of course I knew I had a "process" but it was not something I had ever taken time to break down into steps. Needless to say I learned a lot along the way and I hope some of the "design process" steps I talk about in this new lecture will be of help to students as they develop their own design skills.   Two specific projects are used to illustrate the "steps", but the projects now used will probably change as I create new designs.

The lecture is approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour, plus additional time for questions from the audience.  There is a color handout for each person to take home.  (No computer or electronic devices are required for the presentation).

Two New Designs

I just finished the beading on two new projects.....always the last thing to do!  Of course they will be traveling to the framers this week, so I am interested to see what she suggests.  Tiebele Nights will be a one-day workshop and I plan to develop a second colorway....all rusts, taupes, creama and charcoal.   The size is approximately 5" square.  The beading? The four "Xs" at the points of the diamond....bugle beads and 8 mm flat square beads. There is also a little area using the Copic markers! 

 

Summer Garden Collage is a two to three-day workshop.  This might make an interesting series?! That leaves Fall, Winter and Spring.  Any suggestions of what to include in any or all of them? The approximate size is 8" square.  The flower centers are a mix of bead sizes.  Again, there are several markers used here and multiple small areas of exposed canvas. 

I still have one more new design to finish stitching.  My stitching deadline is July 15th, so I will be traveling with it on my next two teaching trips.  If you are attending SCR in Shreveport or San Bernadino, stop by to sneak a peak of Pear Duet!

Finished Student Project Photos

I have recently received photos of two beautiful finished projects that I want to share with you.  This Safari tote was stitched by Leigh Miller.  Leigh is the owner of Needle Bug in Montgomery, Alabama.  I had a wonderful time visiting her shop and teach Safari a few years ago.  Great job Leigh......I love the style of tote bag.

And the beautiful Tropical Jazz tote bag below was stitched by Susan Deshensky.  Susan just won a 2nd place ribbon for her stitching at this year's NAN.  I love the combination of fabric colors used for the tote bag  finishing and I wish you could see all the additional beading she added.  It looks super.....congratulations!
